The plot of this edition is based on the three AZ Museum exhibitions — "Foresight", "Breakthrough into the Past. Tarkovsky&Plavinsky" and "New Flight to Solaris". The works of 12 artists of the middle of the 20th century, merging the concept of the "Soviet Renaissance", started this imaginary flight, inspired by the movie of Andrey Tarkovsky.
In the course of the development of this project, other refrences began to emerge, primarily with the art of Italy. While surprisingly persistent overlaps are found in the fine arts of the two countries, in the field of cinema one can speak of the decisive influence of neorealism and post-neorealism on Soviet filmmakers during the “Thaw”.
All three exhibits, having been held in the Tretyakov Gallery in 2019, presented the unified exhibition triptych called "Free Flight". Andrey Plakhov, based on personal subjective perceptions, analyses frustrations, thoughts, memories, associations and parallels, evoked by the AZ Museum project.
